Small Four Winds (小四喜)
Three wind pungs plus a pair of the fourth wind. The lesser cousin of Great Four Winds.
How Small Four Winds (小四喜) works
A hand with three pungs (or kongs) of winds plus a pair of the fourth wind.
Three of the four winds are completed as triplets and the remaining wind forms the pair, leaving one further set that can be a chow or a pung. It is the lesser version of Big Four Winds, which demands all four winds as pungs. Depending on that final set and the pair the hand may also satisfy All Pungs, All Terminals and Honors, or All Honors — but it is not forced into an all-pungs shape.
- •The fourth wind must serve as the pair for this pattern to hold.
- •Completing that pair into a fourth wind pung upgrades to the larger Big Four Winds.
- •Seat-wind and round-wind credits for the matching wind pungs may still apply alongside this pattern.
Small Four Winds (小四喜) — FAQ
How does Small Four Winds differ from Big Four Winds?
Small uses three wind pungs with the fourth wind as the pair; Big uses all four winds as pungs.
Does it count as All Pungs too?
The wind triplets give an all-triplet shape, so the hand generally also satisfies the All Pungs structure unless the remaining set is a chow.
