Concealed Kong and Melded Kong (明暗槓)

6 fan

One concealed kong and one melded kong in the same hand — worth 6 points (Green Book #57 note).

Example winning hand
Winning tile: 5z

How Concealed Kong and Melded Kong (明暗槓) works

Holding one concealed kong and one melded (exposed) kong in the same hand — worth 6 points.

The hand declares two kongs, one formed entirely from self-drawn tiles and one completed with a claimed tile. The rulebook prices this mixed pair at 6 points (a note under Two Melded Kongs: "One Melded Kong and one Concealed Kong are 6 points"), replacing the individual Concealed Kong and Melded Kong fans. The concealed kong still counts as a concealed pung toward Two/Three/Four Concealed Pungs.

Good to know
  • Exactly one kong is concealed and one is melded.
  • Worth 6 points; the single-kong fans are absorbed, not added.
  • The concealed kong also counts as a concealed pung for pung-based fans.

Concealed Kong and Melded Kong (明暗槓) — FAQ

Do the two kongs also score their individual kong fans?

No. The 6-point combined value replaces the 2-point Concealed Kong and 1-point Melded Kong.

Does the concealed kong break a concealed hand?

A concealed kong keeps the hand concealed; the melded kong in this combination is what opens it.
