Haitei Raoyue (海底撈月)

1 han

Self-draw the very last tile of the wall.

How Haitei Raoyue (海底撈月) works

Winning by self-draw on the final drawable tile of the live wall — literally scooping the moon off the seabed.

Haitei Raoyue is awarded when your winning tile is the very last tile taken from the wall before the dead-wall boundary, completing the hand by tsumo. It is purely circumstantial and depends entirely on the timing of the draw, not the hand's shape. It can attach to almost any winning hand and stacks with riichi, tsumo, and other yaku.

Good to know
  • Self-draw only; winning off a discard at the same moment is the separate houtei pattern.
  • Works with both open and closed hands since it depends on draw timing, not concealment.
  • Mutually exclusive with rinshan, as that win comes from the dead-wall replacement rather than the last live tile.

Haitei Raoyue (海底撈月) — FAQ

What if I win off the last discard instead of drawing?

That is houtei raoyui, the discard counterpart. Haitei specifically requires completing the hand by self-drawing the final wall tile.

Can an open hand score haitei?

Yes. The bonus is granted for the timing of the final draw, so open and closed hands qualify equally.
