How Big Four Winds (大四喜) works

A hand containing pungs (or kongs) of all four wind tiles — East, South, West, and North — together with a pair of any tile.

All four wind triplets must be present, leaving only the pair to be made from any suit or dragon tile. It is one of MCR's highest-ranked yakuman-class hands and is built around honor tiles, so it naturally pairs with the structural fan that flow from having multiple wind pungs. Because of the non-repeat principle, lesser wind-based fan such as Prevalent Wind, Seat Wind, and Big Three Winds are absorbed and not counted separately on top of it.

Good to know
  • Distinct from Little Four Winds, which has three wind pungs plus a pair of the fourth wind.
  • The four wind sets may be either melded pungs or kongs; the pair completes the 14 tiles.
  • Wind-related lower fan are subsumed and not added separately.

Big Four Winds (大四喜) — FAQ

Does the pair have to be an honor tile?

No. The pair can be any tile — a number tile or a dragon. Only the four wind sets are fixed.

Can the wind sets be kongs?

Yes. Each of the four wind sets may be a pung or a kong; declaring kongs does not break the pattern.
