How Big Three Dragons (大三元) works

A hand containing pungs (or kongs) of all three dragon tiles — Red, Green, and White — simultaneously.

Big Three Dragons requires three complete triplets, one of each dragon, leaving only one more set and a pair to complete the hand. It is one of MCR's top-tier fan and is among the most prized honor-based hands. Because all three dragon pungs are accounted for in this single award, the smaller dragon-related awards they would otherwise generate are absorbed into it.

Good to know
  • Each dragon set may be a pung or a kong; the kong simply adds its own separate kong-related award.
  • Distinct from the lesser dragon hand that has two dragon pungs plus a dragon pair.
  • The individual dragon-pung credits are implied and not counted again on top.

Big Three Dragons (大三元) — FAQ

No. The dragons may be melded or concealed; only that all three dragons appear as triplets is required.

Can one of the dragons be a kong instead of a pung?

Yes, any of the three may be a kong, which additionally scores the relevant kong award separately.
