How Concealed Hand (門前清) works
A fully concealed hand won by discard, with no melded (exposed) sets, where the winning tile comes from another player.
The hand contains no claimed melds, so all sets are concealed, and the win is by taking another player's discard. It is a way-of-winning fan that rewards keeping the hand closed up to the winning discard. A self-drawn fully concealed win is scored under a different fan rather than this one.
Good to know
- •No exposed melds may have been declared during the hand.
- •The final tile is claimed from an opponent's discard, not self-drawn.
- •A concealed self-draw is covered by a separate fan instead.
Concealed Hand (門前清) — FAQ
Does declaring a concealed kong break it?
A concealed (self-drawn) kong does not expose the hand, but it can affect related concealment fan; the hand remains closed for this purpose.
What if I self-draw the winning tile?
Then this discard-based fan does not apply; a self-draw of a fully concealed hand is scored under its own fan.
