How Chiitoitsu (七対子) works
Chiitoitsu is a special hand made of seven distinct pairs rather than the usual four sets and a pair.
All seven pairs must be different tiles; standard rules do not allow two identical pairs (which would actually be four of a kind split). It is always a closed-hand yaku since pairs cannot be called. Chiitoitsu has a fixed 25 fu and combines with suit- and simple-based yaku like chinitsu, honitsu, and tanyao.
Good to know
- •Must be closed — you cannot call tiles toward a seven-pairs hand.
- •Two identical pairs of the same tile are not permitted; each pair must be unique.
- •Scores a fixed 25 fu and is mutually exclusive with the standard four-set hand structure.
Chiitoitsu (七対子) — FAQ
Can I use four of the same tile as two pairs?
No. Standard riichi rules require seven different tiles, so four identical tiles cannot be counted as two pairs.
Can chiitoitsu combine with ryanpeikou?
No. Ryanpeikou uses a four-set structure, so a hand is scored as one or the other, never both at once.
