Double Riichi (両立直)
Riichi declared on your first uninterrupted draw.
How Double Riichi (両立直) works
Riichi declared on your very first discard of the hand, before any tile is called and before your first draw comes around again.
Double Riichi is the upgraded form of riichi, available only when you can declare on your opening discard with the turn order still completely uninterrupted. If any player calls pon, chi, or kan before your declaration, the opportunity is lost and only ordinary riichi remains possible later. It carries all the normal riichi benefits, including eligibility for ippatsu and uradora.
- •Closed hand only, like all riichi; it replaces ordinary riichi rather than stacking with it.
- •Any call by any player before your first discard cancels the double-riichi opportunity.
- •It still enables ippatsu and uradora exactly as a standard riichi does.
Double Riichi (両立直) — FAQ
Can I declare double riichi if someone called a tile first?
No. Any pon, chi, or kan before your opening discard breaks the uninterrupted requirement, leaving only normal riichi available.
Is ippatsu still possible after double riichi?
Yes. If you win within the next uninterrupted turn, ippatsu applies on top of double riichi as usual.
