Daisangen (大三元)
13 han
Three dragon triplets.
Example winning hand
Winning tile: 7z
How Daisangen (大三元) works
The big three dragons — triplets of all three dragon tiles (white, green, and red) in a single hand.
Daisangen is completed when the hand contains triplets or kans of every dragon simultaneously, leaving the fourth set and pair free. The dragon sets may be open or concealed, so it can be assembled with called melds. Because each dragon triplet is also a yakuhai, the underlying hand is already strong before the yakuman bonus applies.
Good to know
- •All three dragon triplets are required; two dragons plus a dragon pair is the lesser shousangen instead.
- •Open melds are allowed; the sets need not be concealed.
- •Kans of the dragons also satisfy the triplet requirement.
Daisangen (大三元) — FAQ
What if I only have two dragon triplets and a dragon pair?
That is shousangen, the smaller dragon pattern, not daisangen. The big version needs all three dragons as full triplets.
Does daisangen require a closed hand?
No. The dragon triplets can be called, so an open hand still qualifies for the full bonus.
