Closed Wait (坎張)
1 fan
Winning on the middle tile of a chow (e.g., 4 to complete 3-4-5).
Example winning hand
Winning tile: 4m
How Closed Wait (坎張) works
Winning on the single middle tile that fills a gap inside a sequence — for example holding 4 and 6 and winning on the 5.
The winning tile completes a chow from the inside, where only that one specific middle tile could finish the run. It is a wait-type fan describing the shape of the final wait, not the overall hand. It applies only when the completed group is a chow and the wait was the single enclosed tile.
Good to know
- •The wait must be the enclosed middle tile of a sequence (a one-tile wait).
- •It rewards the chow-completing wait, not pungs or pair waits.
- •Only one wait fan among closed/edge/single applies to the winning tile.
Closed Wait (坎張) — FAQ
Does it count if I could also have completed the chow another way?
No. The wait must genuinely be only the single middle tile; if other tiles also completed the hand it is not a closed wait.
Is winning on the 3 of a 1-2 shape a closed wait?
No. That is an edge wait; closed wait is specifically the trapped middle tile, like the 5 between 4 and 6.
