Edge Wait (邊張)
1 fan
Winning on the end of a 1-2-3 or 7-8-9 chow (the 3 or the 7).
Example winning hand
Winning tile: 3m
How Edge Wait (邊張) works
Winning on a one-sided sequence wait — completing a 1-2 run with a 3, or an 8-9 run with a 7.
The final tile fills the only number that can extend a partial sequence sitting against the end of a suit, so just one rank completes it rather than two. It is awarded because the wait had a single possible winning tile by virtue of the run's edge position. It cannot combine with other single-tile wait awards counted on the same final group.
Good to know
- •Applies only to the 1-2 (waiting 3) and 8-9 (waiting 7) edge runs.
- •The win must actually complete the sequence on that edge tile.
- •It is mutually exclusive with closed-wait and single-tile pair-wait awards on the same set.
Edge Wait (邊張) — FAQ
Why is only one tile a winning tile?
Because the partial run sits at the end of the suit, only the inside number can complete it, not a tile on both sides.
Does a 2-3 waiting on 1 or 4 count?
No, that is a two-sided wait; edge wait is specifically the 1-2 and 8-9 single-ended runs.
