How Concealed Kong (暗槓) works
A kong (four identical tiles) declared from the hand without claiming a discard.
The four matching tiles are all drawn into the hand and the kong is declared face-down (concealed), drawing a replacement tile from the wall. It contrasts with a melded kong, which is built using a claimed discard. The concealment is the distinguishing feature that earns this fan over an ordinary exposed kong.
Good to know
- •All four tiles of the kong are self-acquired, not claimed from a discard.
- •It differs from a melded kong, which uses an opponent's discarded tile.
- •The concealed kong also functions as a concealed set when other set-based patterns are counted.
