Concealed Pung (暗刻)
1 fan
A single concealed pung (formed entirely from the wall, not by calling pon).
Example winning hand
Winning tile: 5p
How Concealed Pung (暗刻) works
A single pung formed in hand without claiming a discard — drawn rather than melded from another player's tile.
The triplet must be completed by the player's own draws or held tiles, not by claiming an opponent's discard to expose it. If the final tile completes the pung, it generally must be self-drawn for the set to remain concealed. Multiple concealed pungs each contribute, and four of them rise to the dedicated four-concealed-pungs award.
Good to know
- •A pung melded by claiming a discard does not count as concealed.
- •The completing tile usually must be self-drawn to keep the pung concealed.
- •Several concealed pungs accumulate; four together form a higher pattern.
Concealed Pung (暗刻) — FAQ
Does claiming a discard break the concealment?
Yes, exposing the pung by claiming a discard makes it a melded pung, which does not earn this award.
What if I have multiple concealed pungs?
Each concealed pung counts, and reaching four of them qualifies for the four-concealed-pungs award instead.
