No Honors (無字)
1 fan
The hand contains no honor tiles at all. Often a side-effect of other patterns.
Example winning hand
Winning tile: 5p
How No Honors (無字) works
A hand made up entirely of suit tiles (characters, bamboos, dots) with no winds and no dragons.
Every tile is a number tile from one or more of the three suits, and no honor tile appears anywhere. It is a broad compositional fan that stacks with many number-based patterns. It is implied by stronger conditions such as full flushes or all-number hands, in which case it is absorbed rather than counted on its own.
Good to know
- •No winds or dragons in any set or the pair.
- •Terminals (1 and 9) are still allowed, since only honors are excluded.
- •Subsumed by higher fan that already guarantee an honor-free hand.
No Honors (無字) — FAQ
Are terminal tiles allowed?
Yes. Only honor tiles (winds and dragons) are excluded; 1s and 9s are fine.
Does a full flush already include this?
A full flush is one suit and thus honor-free, so the no-honors condition is implied and not added separately.
