How Concealed Hand (门清) works

Concealed Hand is a hand won without ever having called a tile from another player, so all sets are formed from self-drawn tiles and the hand remains fully closed.

The player must complete the hand using only their own draws for melds, taking no pungs, chows, or exposed kongs from opponents' discards. The winning tile itself may still come from a discard or a self-draw depending on the rule, but the body of the hand stays concealed. It layers on top of structural patterns like Pure One Suit, rewarding a disciplined closed style of play.

Good to know
  • Any exposed meld called from an opponent voids the concealed-hand condition.
  • Concealed kongs declared from one's own tiles typically do not break concealment, since no tile was claimed.
  • It frequently combines with seven-pairs hands, which are inherently closed.

Concealed Hand (门清) — FAQ

Does winning on a discard ruin a concealed hand?

Often the final winning tile may be claimed without breaking concealment, but the rest of the hand must have been formed entirely from self-draws.

Is a concealed hand the same as a self-drawn win?

No; concealment is about never calling melds, while a self-drawn win is specifically about drawing the final winning tile yourself.
