How Kong on Kong (槓上開花) works
Winning on the replacement tile drawn immediately after declaring a kong, where that supplement tile completes the hand.
When a player declares a kong they draw a replacement tile from the back of the wall; if that tile completes the winning hand, this 'flower blooming on top of the kong' bonus is awarded. It is a winning-condition faan tied to the lucky replacement draw. Because the replacement is drawn, the win also qualifies as a self-draw.
Good to know
- •Only the replacement tile drawn right after the kong declaration triggers this; an ordinary later draw does not.
- •It stacks with the self-draw bonus, since the supplement tile is taken from the wall.
- •Some tables extend a similar bonus to winning on a tile robbed from another player's kong, which is the separate 'robbing the kong' pattern.
Kong on Kong (槓上開花) — FAQ
Does any win after a kong count?
No. The winning tile must be the immediate replacement drawn because of the kong, not a normal turn draw.
Is this the same as robbing a kong?
No. Robbing the kong is winning on another player's kong tile; this pattern is winning on your own kong's replacement draw.
