How Seat Flower (正花) works
A flower or season bonus tile whose number matches your seat wind — Spring or Plum for East, Summer or Orchid for South, Autumn or Chrysanthemum for West, Winter or Bamboo for North. 1 faan each.
Hong Kong sets include eight bonus tiles in two series: the four seasons (春夏秋冬, numbered 1–4) and the four plants (梅蘭菊竹, also 1–4). Bonus tiles are set aside and replaced when drawn; they never form part of the hand itself. Each one whose number matches your seat — East 1, South 2, West 3, North 4 — is a 正花 ('correct flower') worth 1 faan, so a player can hold up to two matching bonus tiles, one from each series. Flowers of other seats score nothing under the standard convention.
- •Flowers are bonus tiles: they are declared face-up and replaced from the wall, never melded into the hand.
- •Each series can contribute at most one matching flower, so the ceiling from 正花 alone is 2 faan.
- •Collecting a whole series of four upgrades to the 2-faan Complete Flower Set, which replaces the own-flower faan within that series.
- •Some tables also award 1 faan for finishing with no bonus tiles at all (無花); the calculator does not count that variation.

Which flower matches which seat?
Both series are numbered 1 to 4 and follow the winds in order: East matches Spring and Plum, South matches Summer and Orchid, West matches Autumn and Chrysanthemum, North matches Winter and Bamboo.
Do non-matching flowers score anything?
Not under the mainstream Hong Kong convention this calculator follows — only your own seat's flower and season score, unless you complete a whole series of four.
