Chicken Hand (無番和)
A valid winning hand that scores zero from any other fan rule. Awarded 8 fan to make the win count toward the 8-fan minimum.
How Chicken Hand (無番和) works
A valid winning hand that, on its own, scores no other fan whatsoever.
Chicken Hand is awarded when a legal hand would otherwise total zero fan from all standard patterns, ensuring every win has some value. Flower and season tiles are counted separately as bonus points and do not disqualify it; but the moment any actual fan — such as a self-draw or a last-tile win — is earned, this pattern no longer applies.
- •It is mutually exclusive with every other fan; any single other pattern cancels it.
- •It cannot coexist with any scoring fan, such as a self-draw or a last-tile win; only separately-counted flower bonuses remain compatible.
- •It exists to guarantee a minimum score for an otherwise patternless legal hand.
Chicken Hand (無番和) — FAQ
When does a hand qualify as a Chicken Hand?
Only when the completed hand earns no other fan from any pattern or bonus, giving an otherwise scoreless win a value.
Can a self-drawn win still be a Chicken Hand?
No. A self-draw is itself a scoring element, so any hand that earns it is no longer patternless and cannot be a Chicken Hand.
