How Mixed Shifted Pungs (三色三節高) works
Three pungs whose ranks step up by one each, with each pung in a different suit — for example 2-characters, 3-bamboos, 4-dots.
The hand holds three triplets of consecutive numbers, but each consecutive rank sits in a separate suit, so the suits rotate as the numbers climb. The remaining set and the pair complete the hand. It is the pung version of the shifted-chow patterns and requires careful suit assignment so no two pungs share a suit.
Good to know
- •Each successive pung increases in rank by exactly one and uses a distinct suit.
- •All three suits are represented across the three pungs.
- •It is distinct from pure shifted pungs that stay within a single arrangement of suits.
