How Pure Shifted Chows (一色三步高) works
Three chows in the same suit whose starting numbers each rise by a constant step (either by one or by two).
All three runs belong to one suit, and their numbers shift uniformly upward — for example 1-2-3, 2-3-4, 3-4-5 (step of one) or 1-2-3, 3-4-5, 5-6-7 (step of two). The three chows occupy three of the four sets, with the fourth set and the pair completing the hand. Lower same-suit chow relationships implied by this stepped structure are not counted on top of it.
Good to know
- •All three chows are one suit with a consistent shift between them.
- •The shift may be by one or by two, but must be the same across the three runs.
- •It differs from three identical or pure-double chows, which repeat rather than step.
Pure Shifted Chows (一色三步高) — FAQ
Can the three chows be in different suits?
No. They must all be the same suit; mixed-suit stepped runs form a different pattern.
Is a step of two allowed?
Yes. The chows may shift by either one or two, provided the step is uniform across all three.
