How Triple Pung (三同刻) works
Three pungs of the same number, one in each of the three suits — for example pungs of 5-characters, 5-bamboos, and 5-dots.
The hand contains three triplets sharing an identical rank but spread across characters, bamboos, and dots, leaving one more set and the pair to finish. It is the pung-based counterpart to the chow pattern that runs the same sequence through all three suits. Each triplet may be concealed or melded, and concealed ones still earn their own minor pung credits.
Good to know
- •All three pungs must be the same number across the three different suits.
- •Kongs of the matching number also satisfy this pattern.
- •It is the triplet analogue of the same-sequence-in-three-suits chow award.
