How Pure Straight (清龍) works
A full 1-through-9 run in a single suit, formed as the three chows 1-2-3, 4-5-6, and 7-8-9.
Also called a pure run, this pattern lays out all nine consecutive numbers of one suit as three back-to-back chows. The remaining set and pair can be anything that completes a valid hand. It is stronger than a mixed straight because the entire sequence stays in one suit.
Good to know
- •All three chows must share one suit; spreading the run across suits is the lower mixed-straight pattern.
- •Only the three chows 1-2-3, 4-5-6, 7-8-9 qualify; other consecutive groupings do not.
- •The fourth set and the pair are free and may be in any suit or honors.
Pure Straight (清龍) — FAQ
What is the difference between Pure Straight and a mixed straight?
Pure Straight keeps the entire 1-9 run inside one suit, whereas a mixed straight takes the 1-2-3, 4-5-6, 7-8-9 segments from three different suits.
Can the runs overlap, like 1-2-3 and 3-4-5?
No. The straight is exactly 1-2-3, 4-5-6, 7-8-9 with no shared tiles, covering each number once.
