Example winning hand
Winning tile: 9p
How Pure Triple Chow (一色三同順) works
Three identical chows — the same run of three consecutive tiles, in the same suit, repeated three times.
The hand contains three copies of one chow, for example three 4-5-6 of bamboo, accounting for nine of the tiles. This requires holding three of each of the three numbers in that suit. The pattern naturally implies the lower identical-chow fan for the pairs of matching runs it contains, which are absorbed rather than scored separately.
Good to know
- •All three chows must be the same numbers and the same suit; differing suits would be a mixed pattern instead.
- •Lower identical-chow fan implied within the triple is folded in under the non-repeat principle.
- •It often pairs with a tile-hog situation since three of one number are used.
Pure Triple Chow (一色三同順) — FAQ
How does Pure Triple Chow differ from Pure Shifted Chows?
Pure Triple Chow repeats the exact same run three times, while shifted chows step the starting number up between each run.
Are the smaller identical-chow fan counted on top?
No. The lower-tier identical-chow combinations contained in the triple are implied and absorbed, not added separately.
