How Seven Pairs (七對) works
A special concealed hand made of seven distinct pairs instead of the usual four sets and a pair.
Rather than melds and a pair, the hand consists of seven pairs and must be fully concealed. It is one of the few patterns that breaks the standard four-sets-plus-pair structure, so set-based fan like chows and pungs do not apply to it. It can still combine with tile-attribute fan such as all-simples or flush patterns when the relevant tile conditions are met.
Good to know
- •Hand is seven pairs and must be concealed; no chows or pungs are formed.
- •Set-structure fan cannot apply because there are no melds.
- •Identical pairs are generally treated as distinct pairs rather than a kong-style grouping.
