Concealed Kong (暗杠)
Concealed kong (self-drawn, declared face-down). Each concealed kong adds 2 fan.
How Concealed Kong (暗杠) works
Concealed Kong is a set of four identical tiles assembled entirely from the player's own hand and declared face-down, without claiming any tile from an opponent.
It is formed when a player draws the fourth copy of a tile they already hold three of, then declares the kong and draws a replacement tile to keep the hand at winning length. Being fully concealed, it is worth more than an exposed kong and contributes to the final scoring of the completed hand. Multiple concealed kongs each count separately and can stack within one hand.
- •The kong's four tiles must all come from the player's own draws, never from a discard or exposed meld.
- •Declaring a concealed kong triggers a replacement draw, which can lead to a Kong on Kong win.
- •Since Sichuan voids a suit, a concealed kong can only be made in one of the two suits the player keeps.
Concealed Kong (暗杠) — FAQ
How is a concealed kong different from an exposed one?
A concealed kong is built entirely from your own tiles and laid face-down, whereas an exposed kong uses a tile claimed from another player.
Can a concealed kong be part of a seven-pairs hand?
No; in the seven-pairs shape four identical tiles are read as two pairs forming a dragon rather than declared as a kong.
