Pure One Suit (清一色)

Pure One Suit — every tile in the hand is from a single suit. Common in Sichuan since you're already committed to discarding one suit entirely.

How Pure One Suit (清一色) works

Pure One Suit is a complete winning hand composed entirely of tiles from a single number suit.

Every tile in the hand belongs to one of the three suits, with the player's melds and concealed tiles all matching that suit. It is one of the most common upgrade patterns and stacks readily with shapes such as seven pairs or all-triplet hands when those also stay within the single suit. The standard form uses ordinary sequences, triplets, and a pair, distinguishing it from the seven-pairs flush variants.

Good to know
  • Sichuan mahjong already removes honor tiles and requires voiding a suit, which makes single-suit hands more attainable than in other rulesets.
  • It combines with seven-pairs hands when those pairs all fall in the single suit, forming the flush (Pure) Seven Pairs family.
  • All called melds must also be in the chosen suit for the hand to remain pure.

Pure One Suit (清一色) — FAQ

Does Pure One Suit allow melds called from opponents?

Yes, as long as every meld is in the same single suit; the purity refers to suit, not to concealment.

How does it relate to the voided suit rule?

Since each player voids one suit, a remaining hand built from just one of the other two suits naturally qualifies as Pure One Suit.
