How All Terminals (幺九胡) works

A winning hand in which every set and the pair contain a terminal tile, meaning a 1 or a 9 appears in each group.

All Terminals requires that every group in the hand—each triplet, run, or kong, plus the pair—include a terminal (a 1 or 9 of a number suit). For runs this means sequences anchored at the ends such as 1-2-3 or 7-8-9, while triplets and the pair must be of 1s or 9s. With no honor tiles in Sichuan, terminals are the only extreme tiles available, and the hand still keeps one suit voided.

Good to know
  • Every set must touch a terminal; a single group lacking a 1 or 9 breaks the pattern.
  • Because Sichuan has no honors, this is purely a terminals condition, unlike terminal-or-honor patterns in other rulesets.
  • All qualifying tiles come from two suits, since the voided-suit rule still applies.

All Terminals (幺九胡) — FAQ

Do runs qualify if they merely contain a 1 or 9?

Yes. A run counts as long as it includes a terminal, so 1-2-3 and 7-8-9 qualify but a middle run like 4-5-6 does not.

Are honor tiles ever part of All Terminals here?

No. Sichuan mahjong uses no honor tiles, so only the number-suit terminals 1 and 9 satisfy this pattern.
