How Seat Wind Pung (門風) works
A pung or kong of your own seat wind — the wind tile matching your position (East, South, West, or North) at the table.
The seat (door) wind is determined by where you sit relative to the dealer, and a triplet of that specific wind earns this tai for you alone. A player who also holds the round wind as the same tile can score both the seat wind and round wind tai from a single pung. It combines with other honor and pung patterns the hand may contain.
Good to know
- •Only the wind matching your current seat qualifies; other wind pungs do not score as seat wind.
- •When your seat wind equals the prevailing round wind, the same triplet can score both wind tai.
- •It stacks with All Pungs and other honor pungs in the hand.
Seat Wind Pung (門風) — FAQ
How do I know which wind is my seat wind?
It corresponds to your position relative to the dealer: the dealer is East, and play proceeds East, South, West, North around the table.
Can a pung of a non-seat, non-round wind score this tai?
No. Such a wind pung is a valueless wind triplet and earns neither the seat wind nor the round wind tai.
